Online Store 2.0 · Luxury watch theme
Set up CynexOne, from upload to launch
Everything a boutique needs to configure the theme, present its calibers, and open the shop — no code required. Work through it in order the first time; after that, use the contents to jump.
01 Getting started
CynexOne is a premium Shopify Online Store 2.0 theme built for one thing: selling fine timepieces. It ships with a dark, restrained boutique aesthetic, a champagne-gold accent, and a purpose-built Caliber specification system so each watch reads like a spec sheet, not a generic product page.
◆ No page builder needed
Every screen is edited visually in the Shopify theme editor with sections and blocks.
◆ Fast & accessible
Minimal JavaScript, lazy-loaded imagery, WCAG AA focus states and keyboard support.
◆ Watch-first
Caliber specs, editorial detail copy, ratings, and a VIP-styled buy box out of the box.
CynexOne-v1.0.0.zip. Everything below happens inside Online Store → Themes.Requirements & compatibility
- Platform — any Shopify plan. The theme is built on Shopify Online Store 2.0 (JSON templates, sections everywhere, section groups).
- Browsers — the latest versions of Chrome, Edge, Safari (macOS & iOS), and Firefox. Verified across all three rendering engines.
- Apps — none required. The theme works standalone; review, pickup, and market features light up automatically when the matching Shopify feature or app is present.
02 Install the theme
- In your Shopify admin, open Online Store → Themes.
- Under Theme library, click Add theme → Upload zip file.
- Select
CynexOne-v1.0.0.zipand upload. It appears in your library as an unpublished draft. - Click Customize to open the theme editor, or Actions → Preview to view it without publishing.
- When you're ready to go live, use Actions → Publish.
03 First-time setup
Open Customize and work through the global Theme settings (the gear icon at the bottom of the editor sidebar). These control the whole store.
Logo & favicon
Under Logo, upload your wordmark and set its width. Add a square favicon — it is scaled to 32×32px for the browser tab.
Colors
The palette is grouped into General, Buttons, Header, and Footer. The Accent / gold color drives every gold detail — rating stars, buy-box borders, links, and labels. Sale text is automatically darkened or lightened to stay readable on your background, so you never fail contrast.
Typography
Choose a Heading font and Body font from Shopify's font library. The theme's editorial look pairs a serif display face (Playfair Display by default) with a clean body face. Base size and heading scale let you tune everything from one place.
Layout & buttons
Set Page width, Spacing between sections, and Corner radius. Buttons have their own radius and an uppercase toggle for the label styling shown throughout the demo.
04 Products & timepieces
Add watches the normal Shopify way — Products → Add product — with a title, description, price, images, and variants (for example strap or case options). CynexOne then layers watch-specific presentation on top through metafields.
The subtitle / tagline
The elegant one-line tagline under the product title reads from the standard descriptors.subtitle metafield. Set it per product to something like “Automatic chronometer · 41mm steel.”
Product media
Upload several high-resolution images per product. The gallery supports zoom and keyboard navigation. Set an image focal point in Shopify's media editor and the theme respects it when cropping.
05 The Caliber spec system
This is what sets CynexOne apart. Each timepiece can display a full Specifications table beside its editorial The Detail copy. The specs come from metafields in the caliber namespace, so you enter them once per product and the theme formats them.
Create the metafield definitions (one time)
- Go to Settings → Custom data → Products.
- Click Add definition for each row in the table below. Use the exact namespace and key, and the type Single line text.
- Save. The fields now appear on every product's edit page under Metafields.
- Open a product and fill in the specs that apply — blank fields are simply skipped in the table.
| Displayed label | Namespace & key | Example value |
|---|---|---|
| Reference | caliber.reference | CX-8021 |
| Caliber | caliber.caliber_name | CX Manufacture 401 |
| Movement | caliber.movement | Automatic, self-winding |
| Power reserve | caliber.power_reserve | 72 hours |
| Frequency | caliber.frequency | 28,800 vph (4 Hz) |
| Jewels | caliber.jewels | 27 |
| Case material | caliber.case_material | Polished steel |
| Case size | caliber.case_size | 41 mm |
| Case thickness | caliber.case_thickness | 11.2 mm |
| Water resistance | caliber.water_resistance | 100 m |
| Crystal | caliber.crystal | Sapphire, anti-reflective |
| Dial | caliber.dial | Silvered opaline |
| Strap / bracelet | caliber.strap | Alligator leather |
| Complications | caliber.complications | Date, chronograph |
| Warranty | caliber.warranty | 5-year international |
06 Ratings & reviews
The gold star rating on product cards and the product page reads from two standard review metafields, so it works with Shopify's Product Reviews app and most third-party review apps that write to the same namespace.
| Purpose | Namespace & key | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Average score | reviews.rating | Rating |
| Number of reviews | reviews.rating_count | Integer |
If a product has no rating metafield, the stars are hidden automatically — nothing looks broken on a brand-new catalog.
07 Collections & filtering
Collection pages include a banner, a responsive product grid, sorting, and storefront filtering. To enable filters, go to Online Store → Navigation → Filters (or install Search & Discovery) and add the filters you want — availability, price, and any product metafields such as case material.
- Product cards show the vendor, price, sale and “New” badges, star rating, and an optional quick-add button.
- Configure card behavior globally under Theme settings → Product cards — image ratio, alignment, second-image-on-hover, and how many days a product counts as “New”.
- Sold-out products show a clear badge and remain visible for interest.
08 Cart & checkout
Under Theme settings → Cart choose how the cart behaves:
- Cart type — a slide-out drawer or a full cart page.
- Free shipping bar — turn it on and set a threshold in your store currency to show buyers how close they are to free shipping (set to 0 to disable).
The cart supports quantity updates, item removal, order notes, tax notes that respect your tax settings, dynamic checkout buttons, and Shop Pay Installments messaging where eligible. Pickup availability appears on the product page when you have in-store pickup enabled for a location.
09 Header, footer & menus
The header and footer are section groups, so you add, remove, and reorder their blocks visually in the theme editor — no template files to touch.
Navigation menus
- Build your menus under Online Store → Navigation (for example a “Main menu” and a “Footer menu”).
- In the theme editor, open the Header and pick your main menu.
- Open the Footer and assign menus to each footer column block, or edit the column links directly.
Announcement bar
Above the header, the announcement bar block carries a short promotional line — new arrivals, complimentary shipping, boutique hours.
10 Homepage sections
The homepage is assembled from sections you can reorder, hide, or duplicate. The demo uses:
Hero banner
Full-width opening statement with heading, subtext, a call-to-action button, and an illustrated timepiece.
Signature collections
Editorial tiles that route buyers into your key collections.
Featured / New acquisitions
A curated product row pulled from any collection you choose.
Rich text
The Maison story — heritage and craft copy with an accent heading.
Product recommendations
Related timepieces on the product page, driven by Shopify's recommendation engine.
Custom Liquid
A safe escape hatch for custom HTML/Liquid when you need something bespoke.
Add a section with Add section in the editor; drag the handle to reorder; use the eye icon to hide one without deleting it.
11 Languages & currency
All interface text lives in translation files, so nothing is hard-coded. The theme ships with English and Arabic, and the layout switches to right-to-left automatically for RTL languages.
- Manage languages under Settings → Languages. When more than one is published, a language selector appears in the header.
- Add markets and currencies under Settings → Markets; the country/currency selector appears automatically.
- To edit any wording, use Online Store → Themes → Actions → Edit default theme content.
12 Performance & SEO
CynexOne is engineered to stay fast and rank well without add-ons:
- Lean CSS and minimal, deferred JavaScript; heavier behavior loads only on the pages that need it.
- Responsive, lazy-loaded images with width/height set to prevent layout shift; theme fonts are preloaded.
- Clean heading hierarchy, breadcrumb navigation, and optional structured data (JSON-LD) for products and your organization — toggle it under Theme settings → SEO.
13 Frequently asked questions
Do I need to know code to use this theme?
No. Every layout, color, font, and piece of content is edited visually in the Shopify theme editor. The optional Custom Liquid section exists only if you want to add bespoke markup.
Where do the watch specifications come from?
From product metafields in the caliber namespace. Create the definitions once under Settings → Custom data → Products (see section 5), then fill them in per product. The Specifications table renders only the fields you complete.
The star ratings aren't showing. Why?
Ratings read from the reviews.rating and reviews.rating_count metafields. Install a review app that writes to that namespace, or add the values manually. With no rating set, the stars are hidden by design.
How do I remove the "Theme by Cynex Portal" credit?
It's off by default. If you ever enable it, open the Footer in the theme editor and untick Show theme credit. Your own store name always appears in the copyright line.
Can I use the theme in Arabic or another right-to-left language?
Yes. Arabic ships with the theme and the layout flips to RTL automatically. Any language you publish under Settings → Languages will use the translated interface text.
Will updating the theme erase my content?
Your products, collections, orders, and customers live in Shopify, never in the theme, so they're safe. Section settings live with the theme; when updating, re-apply your customizations to the new version on a draft before publishing.
Does the theme slow down my store?
No. It uses lean CSS, minimal deferred JavaScript, and lazy-loaded responsive images. The main thing within your control is image weight — upload optimized photography.
